Pietraia is located 300 meters above sea level rest on sandstone , started from Mesozoic age (150 million years ago) until the Inferior Pleistocene ( 2,5 million years ago), when it finished stratification of fluvial-lake sediment (pug, sand, silt) that composed the current land around the village.

The stone ground assure an hydro-heat balance for vineyards and in conjunction at others factors, with the proximity of hills and Trasimeno Lake, guarantee the micro-climate.

Given the high position (600 m) from each point of Cortona you can enjoy a wonderful view on the whole Val di Chiana.

Lake Trasimeno is a SURFACE of 128 km ² the largest lake in peninsular Italy, fourth among Italian lakes after Lake Como.
